AAARRRGGGHH! Bizarre glitches in Autronics install, but now basically solved.(long).....

First the other news; my mother is going home from hosp today, will need radiation & possibly some chemo, but otherwise recovering well. Now to the Autronics. Generally the install went well with a few minor but time consuming issues like tracing down a wire in the wrong slot of a relay, and a few other similar things. Sometimes Audi throws a slight curve like the ignition-fuel pump-injectors relay situation: most relays act by completing the power side of a circuit, which is how the Autronisc harness was set up. But the Audi circuit is weird, there is live (continuous) power feed, & the circuit is completed by the relay switch connecting to ground. So we had to install a relay to a relay to make the system work. The biggest glitch was the throttle position sensor: Autronics could not read throttle position. Typically, (& this was how Aotronics was set up) the TPS is a simple potentiometer which sends a linear rsistance change signal to the ECU to monitor throttle position. Not so with Audi! To make a long story short & after much testing, we figured out (or assumed) that the sensor is actuated with a pulse of current, then sends signal via AC milliamp change (or some such weirdness) rather than DC resistance. Bottom line is had to switch to throttle body from VR6, which is being done as this is being written. Now top that off with the fact that Dick Shine won't be in the shop for the rest of today (wedding anniversary)& this means that we should be powering up the car tomorrow morning!!!FINALLY!! What a roller coaster the last week or two have been for me. Phew. BTW, thanks again to all of you who sent wishes to my mother & me.
