Default About to buy brake pads from ECS Tuning

I know this issue has probably been beaten to death and I have researched previous posts, but there seems to be a lot of mixed reaction on pads.

Right now I have Mintex Red Box - hate them. Terrible brake fade, terrible in the rain.

I'm thinking of buying a set of Hawk HPS (NOT HP Plus) front and rear pads OR PBR Ceramic Pads.

What are people's experiences with these? I want low dust, good initial bite (terrible now) and low heat fade. I don't do much tracking (maybe once a year) and mostly daily spirited driving.

Hawk HPS. raceshopper.com may have a better price.

Default I just put on the PBR's on saturday

Initial impression is pretty good. Granted I had stock brakes before and they were in pretty sad shape but the brakes feel much better now...havn't had them in any situations where they have gotten warm enough to fade to this point but initial bite is improved as well as braking power over. I also installed a set of ECS slotted rotors as well.

Sorry for no real world experience with the Hawks. I went with the PBR's over the Mintex becuase of similar reviews to what you gave.

Default Thanks. PBRs seem a bit cheaper than the Hawks.

I'm thinking of throwing on new rotors too b/c mine are pretty badly grooved. Just have to save up for ECS's A8 upgrade.

Luckly I can use the new brake pads w/ that upgrade as well, so I'm buying those now.

Default The PBR's are a decent pad w/ initial bite, but very, very, dusty, esp w/ slotted rotors...

I actually just made the switch to Mintex this weekend to cut the dust down.

The PBR's were about the same as stock, but with more dust, IMO. I'm running the A8 upgrade w/ the ECS two piece slotted rotors. I didn't push the car hard with the PBR pads on there, so I can't say much for their fade properties. I run Mintex C-Tech (Blue box) pads for track days.

The Mintex reds seemed to do fine in the rain w/ the A8 upgrade, and I hit a seriously winding road this weekend in pouring rain. All in all, the lack of initial bite issue is noticeable, but not disconcerting for a street pad, IMO.

Honestly, the Hawk HPS pads probably best fit your needs. I'm running those on the rears (I don't change the rears for track days) and have been happy with them regarding dust (low). They're more expensive but you'll probably be more happy with them than the PBR's...

Just my $0.02
