Both these cars are in similar condition, similar mileage, both look to be in good condition, neither have mods,... the only difference is that one is a 97 the other a 98.
Is there any reason I should pay $2,000 more for the 98? Or should I save the cash for mods instead? I have heard some things like the 97 is lighter such as the cf, but the 98 has some cosmetic updates. Are there any changes made to the 98 that fixes some of the defects in the 97 that justify paying the extra money? Which one shall I get?

i recently bought my Audi A4 1.8T, and its a 98... i love it. i bought it for around 14,500. It only has 42K and had sports and convience package, with Tiptronic shifting..
The answer to your question is if your interseted in resale value... it always better to get a newermodel, but if not with the same milage, it might just be easier to get the 97.

If either are not a manual transmission then the 97 would be an Auto and the 98 would be a tip. The normal Autoin the 97 is lame. If they're manual transmission then disregard the above.
1997 didn't come with factory sport suspension as an option. I don't know if the 98 is a sport. Not really an issue if you're going to mod the suspension though.
Cosmetics on the one vs. the other are minimal. (in my opinion)<ul><li><a href="http://ctny.a4.org/mark/a4/diff/diff.html">Model Year Differences</a></li></ul>

You will never get that back when u sell it again...
Get the 97 and use that 2k for mods...u could get suspension and good tires for that price...go for handling first...power later...
