about to replace my valve cover gaskets...but i have a couple questions...
do i need to drain my oil first??
and what should i expect when i take off the cover...ie any springs thats gonna pop out??

no, the vavle cover does it exaclty what it's name suggest, cover the valves
if you want to remove the carbon you would have to really tear into the engine I would think.
or
IIRC, there is another way to remove carbon buildup using a straw, a cup of water, and running it into the engine while you rev it, I think through the TB is where you put the water. Ask RKA, I think he was the one that wrote about it.

hehe actually Rob posted that tid-bit about the poor man carbon cleaning method.
I'd suggest a Motorvac or BG44k service for carbon cleaning. I'm going to have that done later this month.
