Default abs/brake light

I have a 1997 a4 1.8t with 251k on it. just recently had the abs and brake warning lights come on at the exact same time. I have noticed that the lights reset themselves when the car is shut off and that they only come on when the car goes over a bump a certain way, not all bumps set it off, and the lights dont go off until the car is shut off. All brake functions seem to work properly even with the lights on. Any ideas where to check. Short circuit somewhere. I do not have a vag com and my obdII does not show any codes. Anyone on here in the portland maine area with a vag com? Thanks.

Do you also get a light that your traction control is off?

Did you read about ABS controller failures? That is your problem, IMHO.

OBD-II cannot talk to the ABS module. You WILL need a VAG-COM to diagnose this.

I would also check your reluctor rings. I had something simular happen to me and it ended up the the ring had come loose from the rotor.
Just something eles to check.

You realize you're in the minority right? That only applies to FWD.

Well if it is a quattro then he can also check the wheel speed sensor rotors at the outer end of the cv axles as well as the sensors for any damage or debris. Just trying to throw out some possibilities that are easy to check.
