ABS light on, brake light flashing..... Need Advice

I did a search, and I saw two basic scenarios.
1.) Dirty ABS sensors, easy fix
2.) Bad ABS Controller, exp$en$ive fix (>$1000)
This just happened today, but on Friday, a Lexus was kind enough to pull out in front of me when I was going 35 mph. Had to engage the ABS full brake and come to a complete stop about 2 feet from the car. No problems till this evening.
Anyone have any thoughts or advice? I am going to drop the car off at the shop in the morning, I just can't afford a large repair right now as we are closing on a house at the beginning of June.
If it is the ABS controller, can it be disabled/removed with no adverse affects until next month?
Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

all your brake lines go from the master cylinder into the ABS controller then from there to the calipers. Without that, you have no brakes at all. You might be able to unplug the electrical connection. Not sure what effect that will have on the rest of the vehicle systems.
