Default ABS light finally fixed

Bought an 1999 A4 Avant 1.8T Quattro in August with ABS light on. The error code was

00290 - ABS Wheel Speed Sensor: Rear Left (G46)
35-00 - -

A quite reputed VW/AUDI shop in the city told me I need to replace the ABS sensor (Part #: 8d0 927 807 f) for the rear left wheel. I ordered a sensor, put it on the car, and reset the light. The light came one again in two minutes of driving. This sensor has a bolt on it, and I cannot adjust the gap between it and the ABS ring.

I then think it might be a problem of the ABS ring. For having a look at the ring at the rear right wheel, I have damaged the ABS sensor by twisting it too stong. I had to buy an ABS sensor for the rear right wheel that is different from the left one (Part #: 8d0 927 807 c). I learnt two things: (1) the gap between the sensor and the ring is only about 2 mm; (2) my rear left ABS ring was heavily rusted.

I have then bought a new CV-joint with the ABS ring. But this did not fix the problem. I then begin to doubt if it is the gap between the sensor and the ring. I did not think of this because the gap is not adjustable if I use the standard sensor for this wheel that has a bolt for to be fixed. I measured the depth of the sensor hole and compared with the sensor. I found the gap should be over 5 mm.

I then tried to adapt the old sensor by filing away the metal part for fixing the bolt. I arrived to adjust the gap to about 2 mm, and the light is fixed.

Now I realized that the ABS ring was not so rusted as unusable. I could have fix it by cleaning it using BP Blaster with a tooth brush.

It was a problem I could fix without costing a single $. But I have bought two sensors and one CV-joint that costed about $450.00.

Hope to get $100.00 back by selling the new sensor I have bought (Part #: 8d0 927 807 f). I have put it on my car only for a week or two. I ordered it at >$160.00.

I have not yet checked if I can take the ABS ring off the CV-joint. I will check it later.
