Default ABS Module Question

Hey guys,

Looks like the problems are multiplying this season on my ol' B5...got the blinking ABS and Brake lights.

What's the best place to get the ABS module fixed these days? Also, whenever I send it in, is it still safe to drive my A4 without it? Thanks!

Sure, it's safe to drive without it. You just don't have ABS. I got a rebuilt one from Avalon

Default be aware that the brake bias changed and that the car will be tail happy when braking.

the abs module controls the bias.

Default Only when it is engaged - slippery conditions or extreme braking. Otherwise, it is asleep...

and the basic bias is set by the rotor and piston sizing differences. So really no change with or without the module for normal driving.

However, a Quattro A4 will fail to go over a steep incline diagonally without the module

Default under normal braking around a sweeper highway exit it is very noticable.

and in emergency braking situations it is downright scarey.

abs disconnected = massive rear bias.

Default that actually pulls the car straight. A big brake up front with no bias correction will mean back

end comes around while hard braking on a turn if the weight didn't transfer. For the most part, it does and the rears require very little braking effort again (even with big front brakes).

When my bud was prototyping big rear brakes for Stoptech, I was really very impressed at how his car transformed such that he can brake hard on a turn from 90+ and keep the car flat on a that turn. With only the front big brake, the car was unstable (wobbled) and then pushed because all the weight transferred up front.
