AC compressor pulley bearing bad... what is the procedure for

removing the compressor? a local shop will rebuild the unit for $245 (they won't replace just the bearing)

You need to remove the front bumper to gain access. Remove the clutch plate bolt and the drive belt. Most likely you will need to pry off the plate using 2 screw drivers or a wheel puller. Watch out for the shims. Remove the circlip. Again you most likely will have to pry off the pulley from the shaft. Once off, the bearing is pressed out of the pulley and the new one pressed in (bring to a machine shop). Reinstall.
One reason why a shop will not just replace the bearing is because that bearing as it is going bad over time creates more and more vibrations which in many cases weakens the main shaft seal, which then starts (or will start) to leak. If not caught in time, you will loose enough compressor oil then BANG (grenaded compressor)!

I drove for about 10K miles with it making noise...
$245 is not that much considering we're already in the mid 80's here.
