Default Automatic? Kickdown mode does it.

Kickdown is a mode engaged by the Automatic tranny when you push the accellerator PAST full throttle to the floor. It shuts off the compressor (AC) to give you full power.

Default I don't think this is entirely accurate. There's a kickdown switch at the end

of the accel pedal's travel. You get into kickdown mode not just by rapidly depressing the accel pedal but by flooring it thus activating the kickdown switch.

As to the cold/hot problem above I'd check the climate control temp sensor. What's the outside air temp reading on the instrument display? Does it match the actual temp?
Keep in mind that AC is programmed not to work at low temps. So, if the temp sensor shows too low the system will switch into "winter" mode by turning the AC off.

Also, VAG the car to find out if there are DTCs in the Climate Control module.

Default That sensor is attached to the condensor, right behind your front bumper. BTW, does it show

correct outside temp?

Default You are likely low on refrigerant...

the low pressure switch is shutting you off so you don't damage your compressor. Alas the problem is that there is only one place for it to go, and that is leak out, so a slow leak that will need to be fixed or it will just come back. Most often my experience has been old o-rings.
