Default Adding JL component Speakers to a 2001 A4 Audi Symphony

A car audio shop told me that if i install these speakers they will not sound as good as they could with the stock audi symphony headunit. And there could also be ignition noise comming through the speakers. Is this true? And if so is there any way to cut out the ignition noise.

Im going to use a 4 channel 300w alpine V12 amp to power the speaker.

yes, b/c your symphony head unit has no RCA jacks, and the RCA adapter pick up engine noise.

Default Re: Sort of confusing...

The 84-85 db sensitivity of these drivers is going to require a larger power amp than in the Symphony head unit to play as loudly as you would probably like. If installed directly in place of the existing speakers they would not be any more likely to exhibit ignition noise than stock though. The smallest of the V12 would be a significant power improvement in this regard though bigger is generally better.

Adding an external amplifier with more power will solve the limitations of the head unit. Ignition noise is always a possible gremlin that has to be dealt with when adding in an aftermarket amp and this is no different i nthe A4 than with any car install.

Cat5 direct from the back of the symphony - that will stop ignition noise from entering the wire.

Default Don't listen to him.... he just want to sell you an after market deck. He's not giving you the....

full story. If he was a real installer, he would have provided you with more cost effective options. For example, less than $5 of Cat5 (twisted-pair computer network cable) cable will solve this with almost no effort.
