A4 2.8 Quattro
Since I got my car I have been adding oil every 10K miles. I have 62K miles and now I add every 2-5k miles.
I had the dealer check out the car when it was under warranty and they did not find anything wrong. They said that these cars can burn 1 quart every 1000 miles. They don't seem to have this problem with a lot of cars that they service under warranty but will not look into mine in more detail because it is within spec.
Does anyone know why this happens? I have some theories, but I want to see what other people think. The car seems to run fine. It does not smoke, no oil leaks, and no smells of burning oil.

The 2.8 is known to consume some amount of oil with no apparent ill effects, especially if you drive at higher rpms (lots of hwy driving).

I'd do an Auto-Rx.com application with dino (not HM or Blend) 10w-40 or 15w-40, run it 2000 miles, flush and then pick a HM 40 weight according to how cold your ambient temps are.
Castrol GTX HM or MaxLife will serve you well. 6000 mile changes are fine.
Dino 10w-40s such as Havoline, GTX or Pennzoil. 15w-40s like Chevron Delo and my pet Mobil Delvac 1300S. 5000 is a better number with them.
Also, adding oil to V6 is normal, the engine is designed to consume oil to reduce wear. Don't ever let it get below 1q low and the ideal increment is 1/2 quart. Keep us posted.
I went as far as 11k with my German Syntec a few time. Total consumption was under 2q because I did not have deposits aand sticking rings. Use some Auto-Rx...well worth it.
