Advice on fixing cosmetic on TIP shifter

Well it happened. I discovered that the dash drink holder really can't put a good grip on an extra large pop (soda) from Burger King.

So after my high-speed spill I pulled over and began cleaning up. (Luckily I had plenty of cotton towels in the trunk!)
Pop got all over the tip shifter and into the plastic shield. When I was done cleaning I was left with a space through the shield where the discs expand/contract when in tip mode.
Should there be three plastic discs or two? And if three where did it go? Can someone point me to some info on opening up the shifter and fixing this. Or would I be better off leaving this for the service guys at the dealership?
Thanks.

Sugar in regular soda will make everything sticky causing the discs to be stuck to each other. If it's diet soda, this normally wouldn't happen.

Its a pain in the A$$, It's realy tricky and delicate.. If you Cant wait, do it your self, but you will have to remove the **** and the chrome gate, and all the stuff under neath..
If you want to take it safe (trust me, let the dealer do it).. dont tell them you spilled anything, just show them what happend..
I have instructions on how to remove the ****, click the link.<ul><li><a href="http://e-audi.tripod.com">e-Audi</a></li></ul>

like Chicago and what have you. In Austin they called everything "Coke". So they would ask you what kind of Coke you wanted and you would say Mr. Pibb (They don't have Dr. Pepper, how odd).
