Default Advice please: Valentine 1 or 8500...

I have been researching all over (including the archives) and I cannot get a definite answer to this question: Which is better, v1 or passport 8500? Also, did they recently revamp to V1? What's your preference?

Default those who have done reviews of both found them to be equal in performance

majors differences as I see it. I've used an 8500, but not a V1.

V1: costs more, has full remote display, arrows are very useful (in my opinion), it has yet to become out of date since it was designed years ago. the "Revamp" to the V1 was a slightly slimmed down casing

8500: remote display consist of an indicator light, mostly useless; cheaper than the V1

Default Valentine 1 accd'g to "Car & Driver" and folks on the Porsche web site I go to

Have a V1 and love it; failed me only once when I got nailed by instant-on radar as I passed a cop buried in bushes along the side of the road. NO system would have saved me.

Default i have the 8500...

i would recomend it, it has saved me a few times. very sensitive pick up. i debated for a long time over the V1 and 8500. overall, the 8500 is reasonable, looks nicer and i just like it. the V1 offers directional arrows, which some people like. search the archives for more.

Default I have an 8500... on my trip back from Montreal, friends had the V1...

and we picked up pretty much the signals at the same time. Although my 8500 seemed to pick up some X-band signals that theirs didn't.

I thought it was illegal to use any radar detector devices in Canada? Or is it just parts of Canada?

Default I have a V1 and..

Love it. Its pretty ugly, but you can hide it away. Today, it probably has the best or equal best performance with the top end bel, BUT.... it also has the forward/side/rear signal locator lights. It may sound like a gimmic, but once you get use to it, and knowing if the cop is in front ot behind, its very very useful.

Note. A v1 is very good, but to complement you protection, you need an Active Laser Jammer. I run the Blinder M10, and are very vert happy with that too. The makers web site is www.blinder.dk but there is a US disti.
