Default AEB Valvetrain noise

I've been battling what sounds like noisy lifters/ low oil pressure for several months now. The noise sounds like its coming from the cam chain tensioner area. It came on slow a while ago and gradually got louder. Basically after the cars been running for about 30 secs I can hear the noise at idle up to about 2k rpm, after that it sounds fine. Now for the good part... I have replaced the bottom end including all bearings gaskets seals, oil pump, oil retaining valve. I have replaced the cam chain tensioner and the lifters on the intake side. I get about 42psi of oil pressure at warm idle.

Has anybody ever heard of anything like this? I pulled the motor last night in a fit of frustration, and am going to take a close look at the clutch area and change the exhaust lifters. The last things I can think of are the actual cam chain, or valve guide wear.

Default the whole reason I decided to rebuild was the tapping noise.

we...
replaced the lifters, didn't fix it.
replaced cam chain tensioner, didn't fix it.
replaced oil pump (low pressure), didn't fix it.

rebuilding motor... BETTER FIX IT!!!

Have you changed the cam chain tensioner?

Default recheck torque spec's just in case anythings come loose in the valvetrain area

especially after a rebuild... not common to have things work loose, but it happens.

Default Valvetrain noise

If you have 42psi, then you are in good shape.
The Noise i had that was kinda loud was on cold start ups. I was getting the 3-4times "clap clap" sound coming from the back of the valve cover(cam tensioner). Well, i got it replaced at 65K miles. The Cam tensioner looked like new, and the chain guide was barely worn.
Now i dont get the LOUD (clap clap sound) With 20valves so close spaced, and with high mileage, you gonna have valve train noice(no way around that).....I have not heard of a quiet 1.8t valve train.
How about using a thicker oil? I have used the castrol syn 5w-50 one time and the valve train GOT quiet belive it or not...

Default I am currently running 20w50. I have been through a bunch of aeb's and am pretty sure

that this is not the normal high milage noise. I know the noise your talking about this just seems much louder. I have had low oil pressure motors that are quieter than this one...
