Aerodynamic undertray questions.

Hi everybody:
I've got a '97 A4 2.8 Quattro and it's missing the undertray(s).
First question is, does it really make that much of a difference? i.e. should I go through the trouble of replacing it?
Second, the book shows that there is a second undertray behind the one in the nose, which is actually smaller and more expensive. I worked on a brand-new 2000 1.8T and it didn't have the rear undertray. What gives? Does the 1.8 not have one?<p>Hasta,

You do not NEED to replace the undertray. Actually the car will run cooler without it. I left mine on due to my metro area and don't want to risk ripping off my oil pan; etc. HTH
Sorry, not sure about second quetion.

....other than those two benefits, it's up to you to decide if it's worth the money to replace it. Sorry, no idea on the cost of it nor do I know how much improvement it adds to the gas mileage.<p><a href="mailto:andy_hedin@hotmail.com"><img SRC="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/AudiWorldPics/2000/A_Hedin_Sig.jpg" BORDER=0></a>

I know on older models, the oil filter was rather exposed, so there was some degree of protection....also the 5 cylinder audis had a tendency to leak some oil, so it would keep the spots off your driveway<p>'01 1.8T Avant - Laser Red

Years ago Car & Driver did a project to try to improve the aerodynamics of a full size van. Two of the changes tried included a full length smooth underbelly and smaller outside mirrors.
The mirrors had a greater effect in reducing wind resistance.
