Default air filter and water

I did the airbox mod and cut a hole in the bottom of my airbox. I also have the s4 fender liners. What is the danger of the air filter getting wet? What would happen if it did get wet?

Water in cylinders = bad. Water does not compress and metal bends. You figure the rest out

Default Smarty..... his car isnt drinking water, if a little water gets into the filter.....

the filter will simply flow less air.

But yes water in cylendars = bad.

Default but solaris is right - if water gets past the filter (possibly from cutting the bottom of the box

and you going through a humongous puddle) your MAF will probably be the first thing to go.

I know about water in cylinders. I've wrecked a motor in 1996 when Portland, OR got flooded badly. But do you really think I would get water, not water vapor, into the cylinders. It would have to go through the turbo and intercooler before it would get into the engine.

Default You'd have to get a lot of water in the cylinder to bend a rod, but any water isn't good...

for performance

Default Well...

If you have the AC on you can end up with water in the compressor, happened to me when I hit a 12 inch deep puddle in a downpour. I was lucky no water made it into the engine. The compressor was replaced and insurance covered it but it was not cheap. Normal driving will most likely not be an issue with water.
