my car had airbag light on for the longest time..yet i didn't even realize it will prevent my airbag to deploy in case of an accident just because the light is on (although the airbag itself may be fine). Anyway, i read some threads on airbag light here, got someone in my area with VAG-com and cleared code, BUT the stupid light didn't go off... what's going on? According to many people, as long as i clear the code about airbag error, the airbag light's supposed to go off, but mine didn't. By the way, the error code reading is following;
01218 Side Airbag Igniter (N200) Passenger side 32-10 Resistance too high intermittent
01217 Side Airbag Igniter (N199) Driver side 32-10 Resistance too high intermittent
01218 Side Airbag Igniter (N200) Passenger side 32-10 Resistance too high intermittent
01217 Side Airbag Igniter (N199) Driver side 32-10 Resistance too high intermittent

I know there are like 3 plugs under the seat and i saw them, but when i tried to unplug it, the damn thing wouldn't come off!! i don't wanna break anything by pulling it out too hard. how did you unplug it? which one is for the side airbag? and i don't think they are loose....

after unblugging and replugging, did you vagcom again to get rid of the light? or did the light go off automatically after replugging?

You might have to reset the airbag light with a SRS reset tool. I disconnected the wire harness under my seat in my BMW without disconnecting the battery first. Light went on. I had to buy a srs reset tool from http://www.peakeresearch.com to reset it.
I was told my the BMW guy that this happens alot in Germen cars when you work on them without disconnecting the battery first.
Just my two cents.

I had a new drivers side air bag installed on my 00 1.8T Avant, for free. Thanks to my extended aftermarket warranty. Analysis showed "a higher resistence reading" on the drivers side. Dont know what that is but I have a new air bag. W/O warranty cost was $567.94 including tax.
