Default Airbag light question.

I have a 96 A4 and when I start the carrhe airbag light comes on, this is normal for a few seconds right? Now it used to turn off after a few seconds and now it stays on for about 2 minutes and then turns off. What does this mean? And how do I fix it? I scanned it with a obd2 scanner and no codes came up.

I'd start by clearing codes with VAG-COM

From what I remember about it, the airbag light will stay on for 2 minutes if there had been an interuption of power to the system, while the ignition was switched on. I once turned the key to the run position, with the airbag fuse removed, and had this problem until the airbag module codes were cleared- as 4Driver4 suggested.

New to Audi. What's vag com? Im guessing it's code reading software. Can I use a obd2 reader? And that makes perfect sense because I as fixing my oil temp guage and maybe unhooked something while it was on and that would make total sense as to why it stays on for extra time.

ROSS-TECH.com or STFA.

A generic OBD scanner will not reset an airbag light.

What's the best way to get ahold of one of those units? I don't have the funds to buy anything like that right now. Will it eventualy clear itself?

Steal or borrow. I doubt anyone is going to give you one for free. Do a google search for VAG locator.
