Airbag question.

Hello everyone. I'm new to the A4 forum in terms of posting questions so I will try to keep it short and simple. I have a 1998 A4 Avant that has a faulty passenger seat airbag which is going to cost about 750.00 to replace through the dealer. I'm trying to find out whether one being down, can cause the rest to malfunction in the case of an accident. It is a secondary car and I rarely have a passenger in the front seat, although there is a child seat directly behind it. Hoping to get some opinions, before I potentially commit to the repair. Thank you in advance for your responses

Thank You. I guess the next question is whether there is a cheaper fix for the "resistance is to High" error that is causing this. Apparently the dealer is going to replace the bag to address this. Is this the best route? Thanks again for any responses.

I did find some info on the topic in a couple of older posts, but they were centered more around using a VAG to address it. I don't think this sort of fix is necessarily applicable, seeing as how they're looking to replace the whole thing. But, honestly, what the hell do I know. It really could be that simple and I'm just being charged a premium for it. Thanks again.

Are you sure that the airbag is bad, or is it just because you have a light. You might be able to take care of it with some electric connector cleaner and a Vag...

Obviously I do not know of a way to easily confirm this, so that's where it is at. Seems like there could be other options, but I'm just not really sure. I certainly do not possess the technical aptitude to take this on by myself, and I don't know if my local mechanic will have the time to go "fishing" to see what can be figured out.

to grab a water bottle or something. Doesn't happen right away, but next start up it does. Usually I just play with the connector and reset it and it goes away. I doubt it's the bag.
