Default Alarm not working

Hi
I just bought a 98.5 A4 2.8 and in the manual it says that after locking the car the red leds next to the lock thing on the door is supposed to flash. This does not happen. Could the fuse be blown or somethign? The keyless entry works fine. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Typically it means a door/hood etc is not fully closed or the switch is broken.

Default Does the alarm honk and the hazards flash when you lock the car?

If so, the alarm works, but the LEDs don't. By default, when you lock the car with the remote, the alarm honks and the hazard lights flash once. THen the LEDs in the front doors will flash. As Greyhound Guy said, if you have a door, hood, or trunk open, it will not arm the alarm. If they're all closed, then you've got some other problem.

When in doubt, check the fuse first.

Default Yes, the horn should beep once. It's almost as if it wants to arm itself, but then can't. ...

My passenger door switch went bad and so my alarm wouldn't arm itself, but the hazards wouldn't blink and the horn wouldn't honk.

I say try the fuse. If you have a bad door switch, then when you start the car and drive, even with your seatbelt locked in, the interior bells will keep ringing and the interior lights will not turn off for 2 minutes. If your not seeing any of these signs, then it's probably not a door switch. Just my guess.

Default If your lights flash and your leds flash then the car is armed. either

you have it set to not honk. Some are set to not honk as to not bother people around them or your alarm horn is broke.

There is a seperate horn in the left rear that sounds when you arm it. Maybe the horn is bad?
