Default Alignment Question

Just put 4 new tires on 99.5 A4 2.8QMS. The tires were mounted and balanced. Car seems to veer somewhat to the right. The steering wheel is perfectly aligned and does not go to either direction.

I spoke to the Audi Dealer and he mentioned that the roads are normally crowned (which will cause some veering to the right). I have a couple of questions:

(1) How can you tell if your car is out of alignment?

(2) Does Audi pay for an alignment during the warranty period?

Thanks..

Have you checked for proper tire pressure?

I was assuming it was correct. I have 4 new tires that were just installed. I will double check though.

It's always good to check for yourself. Also If the car hasn't been aligned recently, it's time now with some new tires.

Default find a road that is slightly slanted to the left...

and hold the wheel straight, if it veers slightly to the left, just as it did on the roads that are slightly slanted to the right (as most high/freeways are for proper rain drainage) then you most likely don't have a problem, and then find a level street and try it there, and if it goes straight then its all good. Also if you take the car up to high speeds, something like 100mph and the car feels shaky or unstable, then alignment could be off, car should still feel solid as a rock at that speed.

Default My dealer does one within warranty period, however...

my car has never needed an alignment and I have 78k miles on it. Except to bring in the camber when a lowered the vehicle. Audi's do have steering wheel feedback and have a tendancy to steer you off the road when the pavement is curved or flooded. The downside to control arm link suspension, however, double independent wishbone suspensions need alignment's constantly! Have the dealer, or some other service company check the thrust angle on all four wheels. that will tell you if it's out of alignment.
