I just had my instrument cluster replaced. With my old one I dimmed the panel lights a bit off of full brightness.
Because of the leds in the panel, the dimming of the leds is by pulse width voltage instead of just reducing the voltage for a normal bulb. I wonder if the constant pulsing over time wears the leds out faster.
Am I thinking too much.

... dim. But I think most people run the lights at full brightness. Only the dimmed lights have premature instrument cluster failure.

I'm on my 4th instrument cluster, due to my trip computer fading. I can't imagine it's due to the light dimmer, as the trip computer screen doesn't dim with the cluster lights.

How much do/did you dim? Myself, I was just under full brightness... around (90% I would guess).
I think it is worth trying the lights at full brightness and see what happens.
