There is...
1) Front End: Usually about 29.95 and only sets toe and possibly camber (though don't get your hopes up) of FRONT WHEELS ONLY and doesn't care about the rear of the vehicle - You don't want this one.
2) Thrust Angle Alignment: Same as above BUT does it in relationship to the rear wheels (uses them as the starting point) so at least all 4 wheels are in the same basic plane. For example if your rear wheels were both 1°, say to the left, of the centerline of your chassis, then they would make the fronts the same so everything tracks correctly. This is a common alignment sold today and great for vehicles that have no rear alignment capabilities
3) 4 Wheel alignment: Will do the above plus make any adjustments to the rear suspension that is available (cams) and hopefully gets the wheel planes and chassis in sync - BUT is only affective if the shop knows there is adjustment back there and how to use it. This is probably what your suspension guy was referring to when he said Discount Tire doesn't do it correctly - that probably varies from store to store depending alignment guy. I'm assuming your in L.A., someone on the list must know a good shop in your area or go where your suspension guy recommended.
Hope this helps!
