Subject: reformated, installing Win 98, "largest executable program size " not large enough. PLEASE HELP
Body of Message:
I had Win 95. I made a startup disk. I also made a startup disk from win 98 from another computer. I used fdisk to remove partitions on my 2 drives. I did a "format c:" and now would like to get Win 98 installed. I have the "new PC" install disk for 98.
I put in the 98 startup disk and started with CDROM Support. I found that the CDROM drive is H:. Typing H:\setup starts the install process, but it stops saying "largest executable program size" must be at least ~450KB.
How can I change this now that I am stuck in DOS with a clean C: drive? Or what should I do?
Thanks,
Mark P

Sounds like for some reason you don't have enough of the top640k of memory available.
An old DOS limitation requires that the size of an executable fit into whatever is left over from that top 640K, after drivers and everything, even though you might have upwards of 128M on your system.
Look in the startup files (config.sys and autoexec.bat) on the windows startup disk and maker sure it isn't loading any drivers that you don't absolutely need. all you should need is the CDROM driver.
and if that's not it, then maybe someone else can help.
