AM reception & tinted film on rear antenna/defroster

After fighting with the known issue of bad AM reception I realized that my window antenna is covered with a tinted film.
It does not look metallic. (reflective)
Two questions:
1. Can it , even so, have enough metal in its composition to neutralize the antenna ?
2. If I remove the film what is the likeliness of damaging the antenna and /or defroster grids ?
TIA (1996 A4 2.8 - Delta CC)

I listen to AM a lot during morning commute. After installing semi metallic tint, reception went from poor to almost nothing. I find out that I can detect electromagnetic waves though, when I cross power lines :P
But don't expect strong AM reception even without a tint - at least from my experience. Our TT has the best AM reception - maybe because of the whip antenna. The A4 is poor, my sister's Toureg is poor and my Gramp's E500 ('04 model) is poor. A walkman gets better reception, so does the cheapy systems on our Japanese cars.
