Default Another Death by Sludge...long

Well I was driving my 2001 A4 w/83K on it down I95 in Maryland when the oil light started flashing. I felt the car losing power so I went for the next exit I could find and on the off-ramp the engine stopped and I had to coast to the park and ride.

Suffice to say the engine is toast. The dealer where I had it towed called right away to tell me that the engine and turbo were both history. The upside is that they have seen it enough before and simply asked me to produce the required service records for Audi to consider covering the new engine and turbo. They treated me with respect and didn't try to accuse me of doing anything to cause the engine failure. Much kudos to Hunt Valley Audi for this. I had a combo of dealer and 3rd party repairs and oil changes and within 2 days I had the approval code from Audi for the new engine.

The irony is that I had the car in for the sludge issue about 8K before this happened. I had the same symptoms with the oil light so I went to Cherry Hill Audi in NJ with the Audi sludge letter the TSB procedure PDF and my oil light problem. The car was still running regular oil. They looked at me like I was crazy with all my paperwork, said they couldn't reproduce the oil light and switched the car to synthetic and sent me on my way. Obviously I would not recommend them to anyone they are a bunch of arrogant #@!&^%'s.

The car has been in Maryland for almost a month, but on Wednesday I am picking it up with a new engine and turbo.

See my pic poster for more pics of the engine.

Thanks for the pic edits! Yeah I am fortunate to have a good dealer to work with and that I had all of my documentation.

I was also changing oil at regular 3 to 4k ranges and it still happened to me so I guess you just never know.

Default I live in MD and have taken my care to Hunt Valley Audi and...

they are pretty cool. They even told me they were to expensive for some repairs and suggested another "cheaper" shop that could do the repair and save me some $$$$ - they even told me how to fix items myself and sold me some of the parts at a discount, I got the rest on line!

Glad to hear everything is working out for you!

Default Just curious...

but as far as what the pictures are supposed to show...

Does the sludge issue just cause Massive Oil Starvation? Because that is what the head looks like. It doesn't even look like there has really been any oil in there in a while...
