Any AC specialists out there? My AC is suddenly "luke-cold"

About 4 days ago my AC suddenly just wasn't that cold anymore. I can hear the compressor go on, but it blows blah air. I'm wondering if it's just out of refrigerant, and if so, if this is do-it-yourself-able.
Anybody have any input?

I don't have shop manuals, can you tell me where might I check the refrigerant?
I'm guessing I should just go to Audi parts dealer for R-134a kit?

a manual which tells you the basics. all a/c systems are pretty much the same. there is a hi and low pressure point where you connect to. if you use the wrong one, you'll get wrong pressure info

Systems generally have cutout switches for compressor when pressure is too high or low. So, if compressor is running, I would suspect some other problem.
Also, if this happened all of a sudden it doesn't sound like standard long-term slow leakage.
What are symptoms ... Seem OK on initial startup, then slowly gets warmer as you drive? One idea - and this has happened to me - is a clogged condensate drain line under the car. When you run AC, the humidity from the air is pulled out and deposited on the ground from underneath the car. On my Avant I have a regular river under the car while the AC is running. If that drain line gets plugged, your evaporator coil get clogged with water and AC performance goes to hell.
Look under car and see if you can find the AC drain (think it's just in back of front wheel arches, prob. in center of car. Might check the exit point for blockage; this was the problem on one of my previous cars.

Turns out that it was moisture in my a/c system. Service manager, who's a pretty good guy, told me it's a common problem where moisture accumulates in the a/c lines, and when the compressor(or A/C system for those non-mechE's) has a hard time working with a refrigerant & water mixture, and results in poor performance.
He flushed my entire system, pulled the old refrigerant out and put new in. Took about 1/2 an hour, but I have nice cold air now!!!
