Any advice on cleaning the interior? ONYX ... Dash & Leatherette
I'm planning to clean the interior of my car with just water and a clean rag whenever I get a chance this weekend.
I'm particularly worried about the leather appointments (sport steering wheel, tiptronic shifter, etc.) and leatherette.
Any suggestions or comments would be much appreciated. Thanks!

A slightly damp cloth won't hurt anything, and is all I use most of the time.
Others swear by Vinylex for leatherette, etc., but my credo generally is, "if it looks good, don't screw with it". So a damp cloth generally does it for me. Scuffs on the lower door panels, which show up in an onyx interior, I treat with One Grand Plastic Polish with good results. There's a FAQ about using a shoe polish mixture on scuffs, but I've never bothered to try it. I also keep a small pack of "Swiffer" cloths (in your local supermarket) in the glove box for quick dusting between cleanings. Those things do grab the dust on the dash, etc., and with onyx dust is your enemy. Don't use a synthetic fiber cloth on the plastic covering the instrument cluster; it'll scratch.
Rick

Few suggestions
Use a leather cleaner, like Lynox, on the steering wheel and shifter especially since its constantly exposed to sweat and oils from your hands. Using a slightly damp clean rag is enough to wipe the dust off the dash and console. If you need help getting rid of scuff marks off the Onyx, there's a great FAQ article by IronMike.

microfiber rules
Get a microfiber cloth (grocery store, hardware store, kitchen/bath store). Use it dry and rinse it out to release the dust and dirt it picks up. It is the best thing I have found in 40 years of keeping cars clean.
It wont take off dried soda or smoke deposits dry so if your car is a sty you will have to use a cleaner or water with it.
2001 A4 1.8TQMS
