if ya dont slo down for a a 90 deg turn you will slide/plow even on dry tarmac !
Her response is "but you take turns fast" ... yea I know winter driving or rally school.
Funny thing is that she never liked driving untill she got in the rings (Audi), she drove a honda before....and I don't blame her :-)

I think ESP will allow the car to plow sideways into the ditch...as opposed to head on (with the wheel cranked to full lock).

I got a ride in my friend's 328i with traction controll and he was able to use a full parking lot covered in ice as a slalom course, it was quite impressive.

if you're carrying too much momentum into a turn, the stability system can't scrub away that momentum. All it can do is make the best use of the available traction to get the car moving in the direction you intended. So, if you go into a corner too hot, you might end up pointing the right way as you hit the snowbank/ditch.
Now, if you feed too much power, the stability system can cut that power to prevent you from skidding out of control. The thing with quattro and our cars (unlike BMW's) is that it's difficult to feed enough power to cause the car to spin. You either have to be an idiot, or you have to intentionally induce that kind of oversteer.
I just don't think the ESP is as valuable as you're hoping. Not in this situation.

thats where the fun is at. SLIDEWAYS with all four wheels grappling for traction sending up a rooster tail of snow. Thats my idea of a good time.

I never really liked winter untill I got my first quattro :-))
Ever since then I love winter !
My original Question was more curiosity than any thing else, I thought if I can easily do it than cool, if not no harm done.
