I'm contemplating between buying a A4 1.8T Quattro or an Acura CL-S. My goal is to have a car that'll last me at least 6 years w/o any major problems. Which do you guys recommmed? I know there might be some bias but any constructive advice is appreciated. Thanks

when I drive my car, or look at it, or sit in it, I always get the same feelings of quality that I have gotten from the first day I sat in a german automobile. I think reliability wise they are equal. Either car has a chance of something going wrong with it, even the first day you drive off the lot. Particularly, with the A4, because the model has been around for 5+ years, and with the 1.8t, well, decades. My old man believes that audis last longer if they're driven everyday. He's had them since I opened my eyes for the first time, and by now I believe him. Oh, and I regret not getting xenons. Also I'd get the sport package if you don't plan of modifying the suspension. Good Luck,

Thanks Dave. Another thing that I'm considering is that if I added all the options on the A4 that comes standard on the CL-S, the A4 will cost about $1500 more...while the CL-S still has 260 horses...something to think about for me

I bought a 97 1.8TQMS this past summer. The one thing I notice about the car is that it is solid as a rock for a 3 year old car. I get comments from everyone how solid the car feels. This is by far the best car I've driven.
As for problems, it's a hit and miss with any car. I previously drove a 95 Dodge Neon and had zero problems with it. However, if you read consumer reports or Edmund's Lemon Aid guide, they'll tell you it's not at all reliable. With any car, there will be bad ones. So far, no problems with my Audi.

quattro is a necessity, so that ends the story right there. I din't know that the CL-S was so cheap. I figured they would be 32+. How much do they go for?

You'll find many others on this board that have gone through the same buying decision. If you have a certain budget range, it makes the decision a little easier, but for me it came down to the test drives. A4 was so much fun to drive- something that the Acura couldn't match.

i have a little bit of back problems, and personally, i feel the stock seats don't give enough support. HOWEVER, the newer models (2001+ i think) come with lumbar support stock, so that'll make a big difference.
