Default Any tricks to getting the pinch bolts out for the upper control arms?

I'm not trying to ruin my whole weekend but this is kicking my ***. I am trying to do a CV boot replace and i can't get this **** pinch bolts to even move. I am causing more damage to the bolt as a keep hitting it. I am using a small extension and a maul to hit it. I soaked it in BP plaster last night and this morning. I got out the blow torch and heated it up. No pre-vail. It won't even move. I am thinking about taking it to a shop now. Any ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Is there anyway to get the to the CV boot without taking these bolts out?

Ken

Default Re: Any tricks to getting the pinch bolts out for the upper control arms?

he is somewhat right in doin this, there are a couple of things that need to be done differently. i loosen the lower rear arm and drop the ball joint side out of the hub. This is sometimes stuck in place also, but i find it alot easier to get this out rather than messing with the pinch bolt. i also take the tie rod out of the hub- pay attention to how much room is between the tie rod and hub- this can be adjusted using the 13mm bolt on top of the tie-rod. now with these 2 out of the way, slide the cv joint out the back. cut the boot off, take a heavy hammer and knock the joint out. usually takes one good hit. careful not to hit the abs sensor ring!! then put it all back together with new joint/or boot installed. IMPORTANT!!!!!!!!!!!! make sure u load up the lower rear arm to about normal sitting height and then tighten the bolt with the bushing on the inside of the lower rear arm. if this is not done u will get some unusual noises from the busshing.

Default I went the hardest way possible, and took the whole knuckle out to drill them.

I don't recommend that method.
