I see a lot about K04 swaps, but a local VW-Audi mechanic tells me the T3 is the way to go. I'm just wondering why nobody online ever mentions it.

Default even the worlds best turbo without programming is better served as a paper weight

Search the archives. A few have done it, none running 100% AFAIK. No solid programming and other "kit" essentials.

ATP was working on something, but...

Oh, never trust a VW-Audi mechanic.

Yeah I understand that, and I get the impression that the T3 set-up is complicated and pricey. I just wondered if anyone here was running that and could comment. (I searched for T3 and got nuthin.)

BTW I actually respect this particular VW mechanic a lot. He's been tuning and rebuilding VW's and Audis since high school, and now it's his own business. He entered two show cars in Waterfest last year and took 1st place in both categories entered. (Class 29 with a Mk II Golf and class 25 with an Audi coupe quattro.)

www.fastenough.com

Default I've got a T3/T4 setup....

It's basically a turbo larger than a T3.

IMHO, the T3 series is better than the K03 or K04, but it's definately not a bolt-on installation, so it requires a lot of custom fabrication.

Default T3|T4 is the biggest the 1.8 can push.....

But it costs alot due to fabrication and stand alone computer systems such as a Tec3. If you can make it work which some of the people below have then you own the 1.8T engine world. The trick is having a spare car to drive while this one is worked on and deep pockets full of money. System will range from $4800-$7000 just in parts to do it right and complete. Now do you see why everyone loves the KO4?
