What I believe to be coming somewhere from transmission, I get a bumping feeling sometimes when cruising at a steady speed than I lightly come on the gas and this is when I feel the bump ??? Anyone get similar feelings and what did you do about it ???
99.5 1.8qmwett

My 88 80Q has a slight "bump" when the transmission "changes" from driving the engine, to being driven by the engine. I've always assumed is was all the various clearances being "taken up" as the gears and drive shaft reverse the power path.

i get it all the time, took it to 2 dealers both did not treat it seriously, the first had the nerve to tell me it was normal and that there was nothing they could do. the 2nd said that they would call the audi district manager who will test drive the car and make his decision.. i don't think they will do anything. all the while it's getting worse.
Without hearing his noise, it's hard to tell, but I'm sure some level of backlash is normal. As I mentioned, my 12 year old quattro has always made a clunk sound when taking up the backlash, which was unchanged when the transmission was swapped out 2 years ago. Now if it makes a noise when changing torque level, rather than directions, then he has a problem!
