Anyone get a letter about timing belt warranty?
My dad got a letter in the mail from Audi, I'm in a different state with my A4 for the summer, and he read me part of it and it talks about Timing belt warranty or something like that for 1.8T? He couldn't describe it very well since he was on his way out. But thought I'd post and ask and see if anyone else got it and what's it all about. Thanks.

yeah it was posted within the last few days, the whole letter
I got mine in the mail yesterday. Basically the timing belt gets inspected every 40K and replaced at 80K. Warranty is up to 105,000 miles, if it broke already then they repay you. Its basically only for the belt not the tensioner, and its pretty ghey, IMO. It caters to those idiots who had the belt break on them because they didn't change it at 60K.

Why do you say it's limited to belt (not tensioner) failures?
The entire issue revolves around the tensioner.
The "Class Settlement Book" provides:
Out of pocket expenses arising from covered engine damage sustained prior to June 1, 2005 will be reimbursed if submitted by July 31, 2005. This reimbursement includes costs incurred for covered engine damage to settlement class vehicles, labor deliver, and handling charges and all other reasonable out of pocket expeses caused by timing belt tension system failure, including, but not limited to, towing, alternate transportation, and lodging expeses.
The Notice on the front page also states:
This Notice advises you of a proposed class action settlement. This Settlement resolves a lawsuit, and provides new maintenance recommendatinos and certain extended warranties and/or reimbursements related to allegedly defective timing belt tensioner systems in 1997, 1998, and 1999 Audi A4 vehicles equipped with 1.8 liter turbocharged engines.

Because if you were smart enough to catch a failing tensioner and saved yourself
(and AoA) the cost of a rebuilt engine by replacing the tensioner and the belt before your engine blew up, you will get jack. AoA will not pay for just a failed tensioner regardless of how nice you were by sparing them the expense of a new engine.
Audi makes great cars, but they are fvckers nonetheless, with a capital F. (Sigh) quite possibly, just like any other auto maker.

It seems to me this is a pretty huge settlement - it's a shame it took a lawsuit for Audi to admit
fault. This is part of why Audi reliability is utter ****. Had they admitted to the problem up front and changed the service interval it probably would have been cheaper for them than the lawsuit has been and it certainly would have made for much better customer service.
the main problems with this car have been the control arms, T-belt and engine sludge. All of them have now been addressed far to late in the game for it to make any real difference in customer service.
Did all three of these come about as a result of a lawsuit?

Re: Anyone get a letter about timing belt warranty?
Does anyone have the number and the name of the lawfirm who is handling this class action suit. I accidently misplaced my notice and I need to get my information in before the end of the month. Thank you so much
