Default Anyone get a small oil leak after a first-ever synthetic change?

I discovered a small, miniscule puddle in my garage today, and it looks and feels like oil. Is this nominal? or should I get it checked. I had my oil changed to mobile 10w30 at 13k miles. I went to an auto-shop by my house to get it done. Could the leak be caused by incompetent mechanics who didn't close the hole tight enough? or could the minor emissions me a result of Too much oil?

Thanks

Default did you change the pan bolt washer?

Because I heard that you should use a new washer each time.

Isn't it some sorta special thing that forms a one-time-only seal?

Default yup. The only way to stop it is to turn ..

the car upside down.. ;] Id suggest parkin outside tonight.

Your gonna have to either sacrafice about two quarts of oil by quickly popping of the plug and putting on a new washer( that you should get from whoever you get your parts from , Import parts place.. It requirs a certail size, not any old washer).

Or you can just park on the street for a couple days or whatever and just get the oil changed again, couldnt hurt!

Default It's a soft cheap metal.

It's soft so that it will effectively be crushed between the washer and oil pan, and help to form a good seal. Since it doesn't really bounce back to it's original shape, you can only crush it once, and then you have to throw it away and replace it with a new one. (at least that's my theory)

I'm sure your theory is correct. Most gaskets are only to be used once.
