Anyone have damage from Towing from the control arms instead of the tow hook and what kind/symptoms?

Is it reachable/visible with the car on the ground or would i have to lift it up first?......
it stinks that i find out about this after i had my car towed =( was worried about car, didn't even think about how they were towing it..
