Anyone have experience (customer service, claims, etc) wth Amica insurance?

Sick of my good for nothing agent. Amica is (relatively) cheap in Massachusetts and sells direct, no agent. I'm considering switching to them, but don't want a nightmare in case of a claim. Thanks for any info.

Yes, I have, and have had nothing but positive experiences with them -- they have been my carrier for about 17 years now.
My '84 Dodge Omni seemed to be a magnet for accidents. I had about 5K worth of body work on it by the time I traded it in in 1989. Two major accidents -- one where I agreed to being found 25% at fault for the accident (four way intersection, 25 MPH, no stop signs, I was sideswiped, and the rear axel was broken), the other where I was found not at fault (some jerk opened his car door into the path of my car).
At any rate, both of these claims were handled well, and painlessly. Best of all, neither claim resulted in my insurance being increased, because Amica's policy specifically states that if you are found less than 33 1/3% at fault, your policy won't be surcharged. Even if you are at fault, but the total damage is less than $600 (last I checked, which was about 8 years ago), your policy won't be surcharged either.
They have an EXTREMELY good dividend (25% on homeowners, 20% on auto) policy, and I just can't say enough nice things about them.<p>Ruth

I used them for years, then I got married, and moved, and Geico had much lower rates for my new situation. (Go figure.)
Anyway... I highly recommend Amica, and Consumer Reports has rated them number 1 for several years running.

I've used them for 12 years, with never a single day of regret. Only knew about them because my parents also use them.
Also, don't forget about their dividends. They vary by state so check for MA.

We've used them for about 20yrs and have had to make a few claims and they have allways been real good for service, and so far my rates haven't been raised for any accidents (3 claims over that time period) But my sister-in-law went to them for a price quote (my suggestion); wow; her record at that time had quite a few hits and cost they quoted was really high, more then she was paying with her old co. They also investigate/check your driving record before they give you a quote (or used to). You call and give them your info. and they get back to you in few days.

... we wouldn't use another insurance company.
We use them for home owners, auto, and supplementary life. In all our experiences with Amica they've been great. Unfortunately, my wife and I have both been involved in auto accidents -- neither our fault -- and Amica handled both situations swiftly, with reimbursments and payments made promptly and continuous communication and followups. I was also the victim of theft at work (my laptop, palmtop, tons of audio CDs, and peripheral equipment) and they covered it under my home owner's policy no problem. In fact, we've never had a problem with them on any claim and customer service has been excellent.
I'm surprised the are considered "cheap" in MA. I've always found them to be a premium ins. co. with policies slightly-to-significantly higher than comparable companies.
FWIW ... We use the dividend policy deal -- though I'm sure I could make better use of the extra we pay -- but it lowers the effective rate.
I say go with Amica. : )<p><a href="http://registry.audiworld.com/audi/registry/details.asp?car=909"><img SRC="http://www.planet42.net/images/sig_pic.gif" ALT="Rob O" BORDER=0></a>

Here in Mass., auto ins rates are set by the state. But, with state approval, insurers may offer discounts from those rates. Amica is now offering 15% discounts--but only for drivers with the very best driving records. They are intentionally, and openly, seeking good drivers who have few claims. Only in this sense, as I should have explained, are they "cheap." But it sure works for me.

I have used them for 12 years and my parents have used them for more than 20. They have never failed to go above and beyond. Dealing direct is, by far, the best way to go. They also offer a 15% discount in MA for step 9 drivers.
