Default Anyone have problems with RUST on their Brake calipers..dealer says its normal..more

I took my car in for 20,000 miles service and my dealer says that the rust on the outside of my left brake caliper is NORMAL..it looks like ****!!!

Anyone else have this problem?

thanks,
Chris

Default Normal, look at any car. It's just surface corrosion.

Default Paint them... they look much nicer!

I painted mine red on Brilliant Yellow. They are as easy to clean as the wheels themselves.
Of course, if red is too flashy for you... You can go with black or silver. That way... they don't stand out, at the same time.. they don't look like (in the famous word of Chris Ciccone) "****"! =)

Default Smae problem (more)...

and got the same story from the dealer. However, and informal look at various calipers on other cars tells me they shouldn't be rusting like this.

Default Mmmm, not a problem. Brake dust will damage it though, are you cleaning?

The calipers are just cad-plated iron. The brake dust is quite aggressive, if you leave it on it will darken, and possibly damege the cad. Have you tried scrubbing one to see if the cad is really damaged?

What kind of paint did you use on the calipers? Is it the stuff from folla tec? or was it a home made job like a couple of my friends have done. I'm thinking about painting them a medium blue to complement my center caps and bring out the "blue" tone of the 98.5 silver.

Default Folla Tec. Really easy to do.... pic

The pic is slightly on the dark side... but it really looks good. IMO, of course. And maybe some others too. =)
