Buy a sheet of "Expanded Metal" ($25) cut it to the size of the opening for your lower grills spray a primer and a few coats of semi-gloss paint. Mount with zip ties, and you're done

I needed new grills, and I am yet to buy the upper grill. looks kind of silly.

Although most people probably don't like the drilling idea the holes aren't noticeable, and the zip ties are much easier to hide. Here is a picture of the hole.
