Just purchased a V1 for my 99.5 A4 1.8TQM -- the suction cups suck! -- sorry for the pun :-)
It's very difficult to get the things to hold. Anybody else having this problem? Any suggestions?

I think it is due to the temp of the windshield. When the car has been sitting in the sun, the suction cups have a tough time sticking. This is only a theory. If this is the case, I have no idea how to solve the problem. Maybe try runing the defroster with the AC on to cool off the windshield???

Kip,
Now that I think about it, I think your theory is correct. I live in NYC and this has been an exceptionally hot summer. I bet that at higher temperatures, the suction cups expands, making them less concave. Why does'nt V1 make better suction cups!?? It's driving me crazy.
