Default Anyone hollow out their stock cat

why spend the $ on the test pipe when you can just take a bar and knock out the insides of the stock cat?

I agree but it's no different than a test pipe. (which is bad for the enviro)

Default It would work but won't flow as smooth as a test pipe will. People have however put --->

a section of pipe *inside* the converter to smooth it and retain the converter for looks only so as to pass testing... illegal yes...

FWIW unless you are going BIG turbo BIG hp it's not worth it and the check engine light is a pain in the butt. A higher flow cat is not a bad idea though....

Default Don't loose your time on your Cat

Go with a Test Pipe, trust me it's worth it. That's the best part I ever installed with Chip and Exhaust. You will gain 15 HP and your Turbo will spool up longer in the RPM range.

If you want to try your Cat, you will be disapointed. I already did it on my old 240SX and the sound was bad and no power increase since you create turbulance in your Cat instead of going direct with a Test Pipe. A Cat is designed to have a certain backpressure.

Just my .02$

Default You can install a MIL Eliminator like I did and it work well with no CEL codes

Even with a Chipped K03 you will see a big difference in the higher RPM and the sound is very nice with a Borla/AWE exhaust, it really worth it !!!

http://www.mileliminators.com/</a

Default it's just bad for different parts of the environment...

it's not as if the catalytic convertor magically makes the exhaust gases disappear, it just CONVERTS them into a different form of pollution. i did this lengthy report on them for a class in college on auto emissions/pollution, and my professor, who is the biggest friggin' greenie ever said catalytic convertors are incredibly overrated(we're talking a guy who lives in a completely solar powered house by the way).
