Default Anyone know how to test the Ignition Control Module with a VAG-com?

Our 1997 1.8T is missing on cylinder 2. This stayed the same even after swapping spark plugs and coil packs. I've been advised that the controllers do go bad, usually failing on cylinder 2. But for $385, I'd like to make extra sure. ;^)
