This sucks... two trips to boulder and both times my windshield got cracked. The first time I got a quarter size pit right in the middle of the windshield.
Today I go up for an interview and when I get home I have a pinsize pit which cracked up about 4" into the field of vision..
fixable?
Thanks
I saw other people post that German glass is really soft... guess that they are right.

welcome to my daily commute. I have fixed
6 dings (IMMEDIATLY) after they happened.
Then one day I got a golf ball size of mud and
rocks off one of the construction trucks:
I watched it bounce very slowly onto my
hood and into the center of the glass!
I am NOT fixing any more on this piece
of glass! I figure I have
4-6 months with this windshield.
4"...probably not.

I had two chips and this crack. Windshield is on a 4.5 month old '00 A4. I went with PPG replacement glass on advice of a friend and fellow A4 owner

I had my car for only two weeks and a SUV stoned me. I called the insurance company and they gave me a list of glass installers to call. Well, the first windshield was installed to low hiding half the VIN tag and had a 3/4-inch gap between the roofline and glass molding. The second windshield a week later (after I bitched) was installed OK but, the driver side interior window pillar cover got torn and the cover for the wires on the auto dimming mirror was somehow to long (the etched black spot for the mirror post was incorrectly positioned..non OEM glass). Take it to the dealer and have them farm it out for repair. They will use OEM glass with OEM parts. It's worth it...

Your insurance dealer can tell you where to go. I have heard that they can blend in some cracks such that you hardly notice.
I have 3/8" chip I need to have done. I was told my insurance agent would have it done for free - not deductable.
If I needed to get it replaced - I would go with Runners suggestion - the dealer
