Default anyone know my car's rattling problem? *edit: seems i found it*

when i start the car i hear a rattle for a good 2-3 seconds then it dies down and goes on for a little longer - maybe 30 seconds. it sounds like i've got a deisel engine, and i opened the hood and could only point to the engine cover.

i called the dealer earlier and they said they wouldn't be able to do anything about it. they also said there was a letter that "described this" (about cam tensioner - can't remember) and they do not fix these.

sooo: what is the problem and is the dealer correct?

btw: this is a repost (for the night crew)

*edit - after a good 30 min of researching and etc i found out the 2001's especially seem to have problems with the cam tensioner and seals and what not...definitely my problem after seeing the link i have below*

Default no, i think i found it out though

i did some searching and it sounds like the 2001's have a problem with the cam tensioner like i was told on the phone...but they aren't fixing that, hmmm...

i pretty sure its gotta be that because the link below is exactly my problem - but as of today it doesn't sound like they fix it anymore

https://forums.audiworld.com/a4/msgs/1669028.phtml</a

Default i went to jay wolfe with that problem

they fixed it and also did the timing belt service. verbal quote of around 1300, ended up being over 2k. this was right after the dealer ownership change. that service rep has since lost his job
