"do the rear brakes?" You talking about that little cube to twist/push the piston?

i mean to change the rear brakes... from my understanding the generic cube that you can buy from auto stores needs to be modified to work and that it isn't exactly the right tool, and there is a special vag tool for the job.

Default Oh there's a VAG tool for just about any job....are you willing to pay? ;-)

Modifying the cube is not that big of a deal. And apparently it works just fine. There are probably better tools, but for something you're rarely going to use, I just assume spend $10 on the little cube. I'm willing to bet the VAG "special tool" is going to cost a bit more. Good luck

Default So **** that you'd pay over $100 for it? ;-)

Looks like one of the brake tools at this place might work. Also try www.zelenda.com as well.
Good luck!

I thought you were just about to tell me "so funny because I just called Zelenda and the tool is only $30!!" I've not yet used the cube, planning to do my rear pads/rotors any day now. I'll let you know if I get to it before you do. Good luck

Andy

Default Tracking your progress, this might be a better solution for you - $40 kit from harborfreight...

...a little more refined than the $10 Lisle cube, and its got an Audi/VW adapter inside.<ul><li><a href="http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=46790">Brake Tool</a></li></ul>
