Not sure if this is the sensor you're talking about, but there is a little sensor that screws into the bottom of the overflow resevoir.

Coolant level sensor in bottom of overflow tank. Coolant temperature sensor located in the black....
metal U shaped coolant pipe, which is located around the intake manifold, in the "Vee" of the engine.
