The mug does not a have closeable lid opening. It has a depressed lid that leaves a reasonable lip around the top to avoid spillage. I can still very easily pull enough Gs to make my coffee slosh over the side when it is completely full. After two sips there's no problem.
I got the dealer to give me one gratis when I picked up my car. I'm glad I didn't pay for it. The silk screened Audi logo and rings scratches off very easily. It's a good mug, but you can get the exact same stainless steel mug at Target or Walmart for 6 or 7 bucks.
