Default Anyone with pics of aftermarket head units in 96-99.5 MY console?...

I have really been wanting to put a stereo system in my car, but I can't picture how an aftermarket receiver will look in place of the ultra-wide stock head unit. I would appreciate any pics that may help. Thanks

Default I'm trying to make my own, but....

the radiused corner of the hole for the stereo face are easy, just drill. But how did you make the exterior edge?

Default Answer:

It took several router bits. We chewed through 3 or 4, if memory serves. It was a combination of bits that were too soft and Al that was thicker than necessary. First we cut a plastic template that matched the exterior dimensions, then glued that to the sheet of Al that we bought at Home Depot. Once the solid piece was cut, we routered the inner part as well. I was fortunate in that a good friend of mine manages the car stereo department of a hi-fi store up in Seattle, so I got to use shop facilities after hours and was able to entice the head installer into assisting me. (beer is a wonderful thing) I've attached a closeup of the corner. It's a pretty tight fit. It took us three tries and about 5 hours to produce the piece you see here. 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. on a Wednesday night :P . Lemme know if you've got more Q's.

Default Thanx man...

I have to wait a little while to get my hands on all the necessary tools, but your input will help a lot when the time comes. Good looking out...

Anytime! Best of luck, it's a fun but frustrating process.

Yeah, very similar to the stuff that "CD Logic" cases are covered in.
