The VIN might not be given to dealer 'til car comes out of Customs inspection.

The factory assigns the VIN number not custom.

What I meant was, AoA makes sure the car passes Customs before releasing its VIN

That is how you know your car actually exist.<p>The dealer should be able to give you one of a number of different print outs that will have the VIN number, and the vehicle status any time after that.<p>A "Vehicle Locate" will have the VIN #, Status code (See FAQ), options etc.<p>A "Vehicle Order Entry/Update" will have delaer no, request(order) no, Status, model/options/etc, and your customer name if a custom order.<p>A "Order Production Status Report" gives dealer info, request #s, VIN/Customer name, Model, Options(coded), Mdl year, Build Month, and Production Week for all the dealers open orders! <p>(I got to see all the other cars I wasn't getting, and worse, according to the port, most of them are already here, while mine is hopefully on the boat!)
